For those of you who find yourself newly unattached, Valentine’s Day can be a tough day to get through.

But have no fear, while this day is known as the day we express love and admiration for that special person, it is also a great day to pay homage to another important relationship in your life — you!

Here are some ways to enjoy the day, “sans un amant.”

Share time with family or friends who you really enjoy. Being single allows you time to cultivate the other important relationships in your life. This is a great day to acknowledge them.

Make a difference in someone else’s life.

A neighbor of mine sends cards to residents of a local nursing home who have no loved ones nearby. It gives her great pleasure to know the cards will make a difference in their day. You would be amazed at how helping others feel good, raises your spirits.

Indulge yourself. Just as you would for your loved one, buy yourself your favorite chocolates or a bouquet of flowers to enjoy.

There’s no reason to deny yourself all the wonderful things associated with the day. Who deserves it better? Surround yourself with your favorite things and enjoy the peace and solitude.

If you enjoy bubble baths, with scented candles, or snuggling up in a warm blanket with your favorite books around you, this is the time to do it.

And here’s the best part of it — knowing how to love, honor and appreciate yourself is the best way to be in a relationship with someone else. Because, if you truly do, it radiates from the inside out. This may be one of the best Valentine’s Days you ever have!
